and this is just a fairly unusual and really good looking set

It makes me think of everything from the paintings of Albert Pinkham Ryder to those of de Chirico to the work of Ana Mendieta to the early 20th century photographs of Anne Brigman (look her up

I believe this piece dates to the mid to late 19th century

Great Carved Chain Links Whimsy with Two Balls in Cages black vase who began carving in theReally a nice whimsy, beautifully carved, with a great contrast between the sharp edges of the cages and the soft curves of the chain links. All done from one piece of wood; I'm not certain of the type of wood, but it's got a really warm tone and nice weight, and the piece definitely has some years on it. Really lovely. 13 inches long overall x 3 8" wide and deep. The cages measure 2 3 8" long each, and each link measures about 1 1 2" long. Excellent
