mostly where the sides meet the bottom

I've not been able to find another sign like it

Much more carefully done is a linen head covering that makes me think of a bandage

It holds them on very well--this bear is very sturdy and all the legs move smoothly

I've done a fair bit of searching and can find no exact likeness, but turned up a couple of references, the most useful a c. 1863 Copeland (British) basic and pitcher with hand painted
