it appears Ito be covered with a couple of layers of paint--I think first entirely painted red

Crusty, Sculptural Old White Painted Cricket Stool mystical No real matter I thinkI'm forever searching for old handmade stools with lots of character and this one reads to me as much as sculpture as it does functional object, though having stood on this one a few times hanging pictures high on the wall, I can say it very functional, too. Satisfying construction, especially the way those diagonal supports meet the grooves cut into the top and legs, perfectly crusty old white paint, and beautifully softened edges from time and use.
