a broad-brimmed hat with tasselated strings which was worn by Catholic clergy (until its banning in 1969)
including a couple of gold griffins perched on high in the background
I like the idea of this antique souvenir being used to mark places for future journeys in a giant world atlas
maybe added at a later date

It is a sort of celluloid film rather than glass over the photo here, which has aged some, lending a bit of a yellow tinge to the image. But there was still no way I could resist this 1938 photo of clearly beloved canine with his name written for posterity on the mat that surrounds him.
