There is staining to the inside of the cup and crazing on the underside

It is signed on the bottom with what looks like "SJ" and is in great vintage condition

I really need to (re)study my American History in order to be better at identifying the various conflicts portrayed on these old drawings on ledger paper

I believe it was likely made as a small, personal betel box (kun it); like betel boxes, the top of the box slides down over the lower half like a tight sleeve. But perhaps a spice box.
