Playing with Pompey c. 1830s Staffordshire Child’s Mug set of miniature chairs I can't resist an oldAs far as I can tell this is a pretty rare one, Staffordshire, c. 1830s. The text reads "Playing with Pompey"; apparently Pompey was a popular dog name in the early 19th century, perhaps deriving from the famous dog of William the Silent, Prince of Orange, whose barking thwarted an assassination attempt!
