but it does look like there is some writing on the flip side just barely showing though along the bottom

My guess is this was done by a factory worker as a sort of whimsy

I keep wanting to describe it as toothy, and also feathery and I keep thinking "Venus dentata" too, especially with that bright red center!) I've come across just a couple of other mats of this sort over a number of years, and scooped them both up immediately, this one found in Maine. Glorious,
